Lars's Fishing Program· For senior anglers

Your own lakestarts to make sense.

Lars's Fishing Program (formerly The Lake Cabin Club) is my video course for senior anglers. Every Tuesday I send you a short video, slow and clear, with one thing to read in the wind, the sky or the water, and a page to print and keep with your tackle. Each lesson adds to the last, the way a logbook grows. For members only, not on YouTube.

Every video lesson, the same five parts

One short video every Tuesday. Short, slow and clear. Fishermen from Lofoten don't waste words.

Part 1

From my father's boat

A short story from the cod boats of Lofoten.

Part 2

What the fish feel

Why the fish move with this week's wind, sky or water.

Part 3

On your next trip

A few numbered steps to try on the water.

Part 4

What to look for

How you know it's working.

Part 5

Write it in the log

One line for your logbook, after the trip.

Your first weeks of lessons

What comes first

Welcome

Your log

Why the log, and how to write one line after every trip.

Entry 1

The wind

Fish the shore the wind blows into. Most anglers hide from the wind. The fish don't.

Entry 2

The front

Go before the front, not after. Three mornings of watching the weather, then you choose the day.

Entry 3

Your own cast

Let the rod do the work. A bucket in the yard and twenty easy casts, kind to your shoulder.

Entry 4

When to leave

Cast like the hands of a clock. No bite in ten minutes? The fish are somewhere else.

The log

One line per trip

My father had no fish finder. He had a logbook. After many years, that book could tell him where the fish would be before we left the harbor.

  1. The date and the hours you fished.
  2. The wind: where it came from, light, steady or strong.
  3. The sky: sunny, cloudy or changing.
  4. The pressure: rising, falling or steady.
  5. Where you fished, in a few words.
  6. Bites and fish.

"Use a pencil, not a pen. It writes in the cold and in the rain."

Good to know

Simple to join

It comes to your email

Every Tuesday my email brings a link to the video and a page to print. Keep the page with your tackle, next to your log. Members only.

One thing to read, every Tuesday

Each video asks for one thing on your next trip. It builds on the week before, like a new line in your log.

Your log grows

Keep the pages together. In a few weeks, your own water starts to tell you when to go.
